My take away -

Journey is an American classic...as would be Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Aerosmith (of course, all three have different sounds).  Steve Perry will forever be the best lead singer in the band.  Yet, I have never known of any band to make so many changes as they did.  When Andy Taylor left Duran Duran, there seemed to be a smooth transition into bringing in Dom Brown as electric guitarist (although only Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John  Taylor, and Roger Taylor are listed as the band members). 

I find Journey to be emotionally driven in tone but in a rock genre way.  On the other hand, I find Chris Botti to be emotionally driven but in a jazz genre way.

My ultimate point is this - Journey, whether with the original members or members coming and going, is an iconic band in musical history.
