Day 37 - Roger Taylor DJ 2008

On this Friday, the end of the work week and Day 37 in the Set List First 100, enjoy the day with electric energy as Roger Taylor performs a dj set at an after show party in Tokyo in 2008.  Some time ago but always fun.

May this exciting reminiscence bring a sigh of relief to reach Friday and, like previous live performance posts, a musical sigh of relief from the misery of 2020.

In this post, zZounds has a special offer to bring back vinyl from the 20th Century to the 21st Century.

The Record Player's Buying Guide will say the rest of it.  Follow the link above.

Day 34 - Bond Music Theme Comparison

The James Bond film series is in one word iconic - iconic for the many portrayals, iconic for the unique 007 theme throughout, iconic for wealth and "Bond girls," and iconic for so many other reasons.  Yet, there is one iconic notion that links film to score.

On this Day 34 in the Set List First 100, I am considering "A View to a Kill" and "Skyfall."  Which do you prefer?

Film - A View to a Kill (1985)

Music - #1 on Billboard Hot 100 ... Golden Globe nomination

Point of intrigue - Only Bond theme to reach #1 on Billboard Hot 100

"A View to a Kill"

Duran Duran

Film - Skyfall (2012)

Day 33 - Artist Signature

Due disclaimer - This post contains affiliate links and I may earn a small commisson on any purchase made.

Where the variety of guitars is many, Gibson and Fender are the ultimate.  Picture being on stage to a sold-out audience.  Feel the electricity with the guitar.  Feel the deep edge with the bass.  Picture a jam session in the studio to create an album.  Question though - Who do you go to for iconic instruments?  Answer - zZounds has you covered.

Roland Bonus

Due disclaimer - This post contains affiliate links and I may earn a small commission on any purchase made.

Roland is a lifetime intrigue and interest brand to Nick Rhodes.  His latest consideration is the JD-XA.

In his words -

On zZounds, Roland has a proposal for the pros who desire to be "the controller."

Roland JD-XA Analog/Digital Crossover Synthesizer

(Day 32) Nick Rhodes & Roland

Due disclaimer - This post contains affiliate links and I may earn a small commissionon any purchase made.

Nick Rhodes is exceptionally knowledgeable about the Roland brand, hence his earned and deserving award.  He knows precise strokes.  He knows how to blend his style with entirely different instruments and have it make sense.  "Say hello to the controller" indeed.

In this post, I thought I would share the Roland brand on zZounds to explore, enjoy, and perhaps buy.

Day 32 - Set List Reader's Choice

In this edition of Set List Reader's Choice, your top pick is:

Nick Rhodes Receives the Roland Lifetime Achievement Award 2021

Nick Rhodes is by far the most uniquely talented musician in the Duran Duran lineup and overall.  His take on the keyboards and synthesizers is one to inspire budding musicians and perhaps professional musicians maintaining similar sounds.  Early on and moving forward, Nick created a layer of music that would otherwise be foreign to other bands.

The closest talent I have discovered is Parov Stelar.  He is my opinon only.

As for the Roland brand.  Nick Rhodes defined the instrumental and ran with it...

...This is where I will leave off.

Day 31 - Set List Saturday Favorite

Due disclaimer - This post contains affiliate links and I may earn a small commission on any purchase made.

In this edition of Saturday Favorite, I am featuring
Day 26 - Gibson Custom Models.  Prior to that Saturday Favorite post was Exclusive Epiphone guitars.

In my early years from middle school to high school, I chose to play the viola as my fine arts requisite.  Stringed instruments were not meant to be for me and I concluded my time as of junor year.  With that said, I do admire the guitar - electric, bass, and acoustic.  Dedication and lifelong passion define budding artists and ultimate pros.  The guitar is the only stringed instrument I would want to learn.

In this post, let's look back at the Gibson Custom Models to invest in, learn, and rock the stage.

Day 28 - Set List Special Edition

Music in any genre unites all and with every interest.  Music in any genre shares unique messages to the audience, whether recorded or live or even official videos.  Music overall is iconic, from inspiring to budding to established to Hall of Fame worthy.

On this Day 28 in the Set List First 100, I am lifting the barrier between black and white through song.

Consider "Black or White" by Michael Jackson -

Consider the lighthearted classic "Ebony and Ivory" duet on Saturday Night Live as performed in 1982.  Eddie Murphy as Stevie Wonder.  Joe Piscopo as Frank Sinatra.

As always,

Play it!

Happy Birthday, Andy Taylor

In years past, I honored each Duran Duran nember with due mention on Live From London.  The mentions were noted by Simon Le Bon at the peak of "Girls On Film" and I posted the song on every member's birthday.

This year is different with the inauguration of the new United States presidency.  On Set List, this year is different in how I will celebrate best wishes for Andy Taylor's most Happy Birthday as well as Roger, Nick, John, and Simon.

In the video below, look for Andy's noted favorite guitarists in this Duran Duran Reunion Documentay.

In this edition of Set List Reader's Choice, your top pick is:

Day 21 - Set List Special Edition

Day 21 featured Jill Scott and her soul defining song, "Golden."

In this post, I thought I would briefly share the background of "Golden" and its album, Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2.

"Golden" is the third track from Jill Scott's third album as listed above and was the first single to be released from Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2.

"Golden"
Peak at #31 on U.S. Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs
Peak at #59 on UK Singles Chart

#3 on Billboard 200 upon release
#1 on Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums

Brief note -
Although "Golden" is the top preference for the week, I would be remiss not to include the sixth song from the album that led to Jill Scott's first Grammy Award for Best Urban/Alternative Performance (2005) - "Cross My Mind."

And there you have it - Sunday feature and this week's conclusion as chosen by you.
