Earthbeat was a joint album between the Paul Winter Consort and the Dmitri Pokrovsky Ensemble from the Soviet Union (now Russia).  Earthbeat was recorded and released in 1987.

Earthbeat was recorded in Moscow and New York City.

Why is Earthbeat considered a landmark album?  Answer - The creation of a profoundly new musical sound.  The album created a mix of Russian folk, Brazilian & African drums and harmonies, and western jazz harmonies as provided by saxophonist Paul Winter and his consort.  Genres considered for Earthbeat include new age, folk jazz, ethno-jazz, and world fusion.

"Kurski Funk" is the first track out of ten on Earthbeat and the ethnic backdrop is clearly evident.
