Set List Reader's Choice

In this edition of Set List Reader's Choice, your top favorite is:

Guess the Artist

The answer was Peter Gabriel based on his song, "Steam," from the album, Us.

Peter Gabriel was not always praised for upbeat tunes.  For some time, he was let down by critics for what can only be considered depressing.

For example, "Don't Give Up"  and "Mercy Street" are hopeful songs but are rather down in tone with emphasis on flat notes.

"Don't Give Up" is from Peter Gabriel's fifth album, So, released in May 1986.

Honors -

Best selling solo release

Grammy Nomination for Best Album of the Year (1987)

Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time (2003 & 2020)

Certifications -

Gold in Argentina, Belgium, France, Hong Kong, & Spain

Platinum in Germany, Netherlands, & Switzerland

3x Platinum in Australia and the UK

5x Platinum in New Zealand & the U.S.

Amazon Associates Update

Dear readers and passersby,

I am saddened to say that I have been rejected by the Amazon Associates temporary program.  I will no longer be able to devote and sell on posts to products featured on Amazon as related to my business.

I am so sorry.

My mother is having surgery today and will need a significant amount of help during the recovery process at home, so I will not be on Set List for a while.  I hope to return next week some time.

Guessed Right

In the latest Guess the Artist post, the artist was stamped onto the official video for "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight."  Genesis, when Phil Collins took over for Peter Gabriel.

Genesis, with either front man, has an extensive history so in this post, I thought I would share the album behind the song.

"Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" is the second track from Genesis' 13th album, Invisible Touch, released in June 1986.  "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" was released as the album's fourth single in March 1987.  The song reached No. 3 in the U.S. and No. 18 in the UK.  (Wikipedia)

Invisible Touch reached No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 3 on Billboard 200.

Five singles from the album reached the Top 5 on Billboard Hot 100 - first and foreign band to achieve such success.

The album is the band's highest selling with over 1.2 million in the UK and 6 million in the U.S.

Certifications -

Gold in Hong Kong, Japan, and Spain

Platinum in France, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland

3X Platinum in Australia

4X Platinum in New Zealand and the UK

6X Platinum in the U.S.

The "tonight" theme can be traced to a solo career and band career.

One by U2

"One is the loneliest number"

In reality, this quote is true.  I do believe that many decades ago, this quote was meant to be funny depending on delivery.  The words and sentiment can be depressing.  In music, this is not for the alone at heart but instead is best enjoyed when performed by U2 - the one and only.

"One"

"One" is the third track and third release from U2's 1991 album, Achtung Baby.

Honors -

No. 1 on Irish Singles Charts, Canadian RPM Top Singles Charts, U.S. Album Rock Tracks, and U.S. Modern Rock Tracks

No. 3 in New Zealand

No. 4 in Australia

No. 7 in UK Singles Chart

No. 10 on Billboard Hot 100

Set List Reader's Choice

In this edition of Set List Reader's Choice, your top favorite is by Issa and her Park Lane boutique.

In the world of Set List fashion, precious jewelry ranks well at the top of consideration, buying, and supporting entrepreneurship.  Help Melissa reach so high up in leadership status that she nearly owns Park Lane.

In the world of Set List small business, the title "Amazon Associate" goes a long way with the same - consider, buy, and support.  Help me in defining what I consider success - the American dream of financial independence and living on my own in only the best of ways.
