At the end of the day

Every generation in music brings a new style to lend toward future generations.  In the 1980's, the concept of synthesizer use was groundbreaking and added a layer to recording that would forever change perspective on how albums would be created.

Nick Rhodes introduced the synth to Duran Duran early on and is always evolving his use of synthesizers with advanced technology in the music industry.

Harold Faltermeyer introduced synthesizers to film in a way that defined the 1980's decade and pop culture.

Although we are well into the 21st Century, synthesizers in film are still greatly appreciated and enjoyed.  Consider Beverly Hills Cop - a movie that would not be the same without the synthesizer backdrop in key scenes.  Of every movie Eddie Murphy has been in, Beverly Hills Cop (the first in the series) is the most decorated in reception -

People's Choice Award for Favorite Motion Picture (Win)
Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy (Nomination)
Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay (Nomination)

$234 million in North American domestic box office - highest grossing film in 1984 release

At the end of the day, music is no longer the same without a synthesizer.
