The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - Class of 1988 No. 5

 The Supremes

Inducted by Little Richard

(Wikipedia)

Point of intrigue - By the mid-1960s, The Supremes were on par with The Beatles in worldwide popularity.

Like The Drifters, The Supremes had a revolving door of new and established members.  The original lineup included Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson, Diana Ross, Betty McGlown.  This core eventually broke down when Diana Ross left to pursue a solo career.

With that said, Wikipedia will say the rest of it.  Follow the link above.

Honors -

2 Grammy nominations

3 songs added to the Grammy Hall of Fame - "Where Did Our Love Go" and "You Keep Me Hangin' On," (1999) ... "Stop! In the Name of Love" (2001)

"Stop! In the Name of Love" and "You Can't Hurry Love" listed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll

Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson, and Diana Ross were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame (1998)

Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

No. 97 on 100 Greatest Artists of All Time (Rolling Stone, 2004)

Of everything that can be taken away in the history of The Supremes, their influence has been uniquely placed on black female musicians.
