zZounds Reflection - The Electronic Drum Kit

Set List Recommended
In this edition of Set List Recommended, my top pick is Friday Eve.
As a refresher, the launch edition of the Friday Eve series featured "In the Air Tonight" as performed live - including Phil Collins playing the drums.
In this post, I thought I would recommend "In the Air Tonight."
"In the Air Tonight" Background -
- Debut solo single
- Lead single from Phil Collins's debut solo album, Face Value
- Signature song
- Written during Collins's divorce from his first wife in 1980
(Which would lend to the intensity of the tone and lyrics)
"In the Air Tonight" Success -
- No. 2 on UK Singles chart
- Top 10 in Australia and New Zealand
- No. 1 in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and Sweden
- No. 19 on Billboard Hot 100
(Refer to Wikipedia for a further background)
"In the Air Tonight" Certifications -
- Gold in Germany, New Zealand (Physical Single), the UK (Physical Single), and the U.S. (Physical Single)
- Platinum in Italy, New Zealand (Digital Single), the UK (Digital Single)
- 3x Platinum in the U.S. (Digital Single)
The live version of "In the Air Tonight" is impressive and leaves the notion of not wanting the song to end. This is especially true of the drum performance. The audience knew it was coming. On record, listeners know it is coming. When it does though, the desire to hear the drums again and again is strong.
For this reason, Friday Eve is my Set List recommendation.

3rd album
Released in September 1978
Last recording with original lead singer, John Foxx
First album without guitarist, Stevie Shears
Robin Simon - Shears replacement - made first and only appearance with Ultravox
Mixed reviews upon release
Did not chart upon release
Impressive point to consider -
Significant influence on electropop genre
"Slow Motion" -
First track
Noted for multi effects pedal guitar sound and synthesizer bass as well as several synthesizer parts
Although the album did not achieve success, the lead track - "Slow Motion" - defined what would become an iconic genre that made its initial stamp in 1980s music. Roger Taylor's interest in Ultravox and "Slow Motion" truly is intriguing and worthwhile to know.
