In this edition of Set List Sunday Favorite, The Rippingtons are by far the most well-received this week with Friday Fave - The Rippingtons in the lead.
On Set List, I tend to assume rock music will be the most popular. I especially assume Duran Duran will take the forefront. When I do write about jazz in any format it may be, I tend to lean toward Chris Botti and Miles Davis. I consider both to fall under classic jazz. When I wrote about my Boney James album collection with specific focus on the song, "RPM," positive reader response was surprising in a good way. And so now, with consistent posts about smooth jazz and The Rippingtons in particular, I am once again surprised by positive reader response.

Highroller
In this edition of Saturday Music Pick, I am featuring a track from the album, Weekend in Monaco, by The Rippingtons.
"Highroller" is the eighth track out of nine on Weekend in Monaco. I find this to be a bold placement because "Highroller" is profoundly upbeat and blends a sense of groove and smooth jazz. In fact, if there were lyrics in "Highroller," you might forget the song really is in the smooth jazz genre.
Okay, a mix of entertainment mediums. Raise your hand if you are a fan of the television series, Seinfeld (of course now in syndication). As a fan, do you ever catch a very brief musical note before the opening of episodes later in the series? If you do, "Highroller" is reminiscent of that note near the end of the song - in the 4:00 minute range.
Listen closely to both and let me know what you think!

Lauren's Weekly Favorite
Welcome to the launch edition of Lauren's Weekly Favorite - a reflection of my personal favorite post from Monday to Thursday.

Remember when...
...Duran Duran celebrated the 35th anniversary of Rio?
The honor seems so long ago, but the classic album is truly timeless.
I recently came across a unique history of Rio as discussed by Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, and Roger Taylor individually. An interesting take on the oral history provided by the guys (if you will) is that in the YouTube video (the history source), Simon, Nick, John, and Roger speak behind photos of themselves at the time of making Rio. One other interesting take on the oral history is that Simon, Nick, John, and Roger spoke mainly about their own roles with each track on the album before coming together as one.
Notice that Andy Taylor was not present in the video...As a lifelong fan, I will never get over his departure.
Rio is a profound album with impressive and lasting impact on the music industry.

Don't ask me why...
...I am so taken to "Save a Prayer."
Last week, I posted "Save a Prayer" as performed live from London. The post was meant to vent personal emotions due to a family medical emergency.
Yesterday, I posted "Save a Prayer" as performed live in Duran Duran's studio. The post was meant to be a unique and different perspective of the song.
