Set List Review - Yours by Brent McCollough

Brent McCollough is well known for the now viral "Stayin' Inside" parody take on the iconic "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees.

Brent, however, is an established musician beyond the clever message to stay home, save lives.

In this Set List special, I am spotlighting Brent's single, "Yours," set for release on April 17th.

"Yours" is a beautiful story of romance in an understated tone.  The piano introduction offers a gentle note to a budding tale of love in lyrics.  An accompanying orchestral seamlessly accents the meaning of "Yours."

Love songs are essentially sentimental and with special meaning behind lyrics unique to individual musicians.

"...take a risk to reap the reward..."

"...now I know what it feels like to be yours..."

The lyrics quoted here are profoundly heartfelt and distinctly innocent, leaving the listener to know that he or she is in the musical presence of love and content happiness.

In conclusion, I was deeply moved by "Yours" and truly see success upon its release.

Set List Recommended

"Uptown Funk" is an established song on Set List.  I cannot recall how many times I have played a "record loop" of the YouTube video, from the song's original debut to simply over and over again.  As a fan, then, I will always recommend "Uptown Funk" for the best in musical entertainment.

In this post, I am featuring a twist on the "Uptown Funk" performance - a YouTube video far from the official yet seamless in timing.  You would never know classic icons in Hollywood film could be matched with a present day funk genre.  

For this reason, I recommend the blend of historic pop culture and 21st century pop culture.

Set List Recommended Special Edition 

As a refresher, the post was a parody take on the classic Bee Gees song, "Stayin' Alive" - the parody being "Stayin' Inside" during this time of social distancing, critical hygiene, and mandated stay at home to help stop the spread of Covid-19.

In this post, I thought I would feature the young man behind the lighthearted video emphasizing a serious crisis.

Brent McCollough is a young talent.  He is known well as a vocalist, keyboardist, programmer, guitarist, harmonica player, engineer, producer, arranger, composer, and songwriter...to name a few.

Brent began playing the piano at an early age and formally studied for 13 years.  He then went on to study Music Production and Performance at the University of Alabama.  After graduation, he pursued a master's in Jazz Studies at the University of North Texas.  

While at the University of North Texas, Brent directed the Zebras Contemporary Ensemble, taught Jazz Keyboard Fundamentals, and assisted in undergraduate classes.

Brent has worked with The Black Jacket Symphony as a keyboardist and singer.

Brent is currently a Nashville, Tennessee based "in-demand musician, artist, and producer."

Iconic Reunion - Duran Duran

Their story began in Birmingham in 1978.  The original lineup - the "Fab Five" - included Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, Andy Taylor, John Taylor, and Roger Taylor.  In the 1980's, Duran Duran was considered to be the second British invasion of the U.S. primarily due to MTV.

Duran Duran have sold over 100 million records worldwide.  They have won 2 Brit Awards (including Outstanding Contribution to Music), 2 Grammy Awards, an MTV Video Music Award (Lifetime Achievement), and a Video Visionary Award from the MTV Europe Music Awards.  They have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Point of intrigue -

At the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards, Duran Duran were slated to be presenters.  The honor was a surprise.

Accolades aside...

...This is where I will begin.

Their reunion story began in 2000 when Simon Le Bon approached John Taylor with the consideration of reforming the original line-up.  John agreed, as did Roger and Andy.

From 2001 to 2003, the band worked on creating new material.  When they could not land a record deal, Duran Duran launched a tour to prove "drawing power of the reunited band."

Two arena concerts in Tokyo were entirely sold out.  

Concert dates in America, Australia, and New Zealand were sold out.

In the UK, Duran Duran were set for 14 stadium concerts in 2004, including five sold out performances at Wembley.  The last two shows were filmed -

In June 2004, Duran Duran signed with Epic Records and the first album produced was Astronaut.

Astronaut was released in October 2004 - No. 3 in the UK and No. 17 in the U.S.
