In the music industry, the same experience can be said.
The most Grammy nominations without a win belongs to Morten Lindberg, with 26 - making this a record.
Morten Lindberg is of Norwegian descent. He is a sound engineer and music producer primarily in classical music production. (Wikipedia)
Diana Ross completes the list of most Grammy nominations without a win - 12. Her difference, though, is the number of honorable inductions -
1970 - NAACP Image Awards
1976 - Billboard Award
1982 - Hollywood Walk of Fame (Solo)
1993 - Guinness Book of World Records
1994 -
Hollywood Walk of Fame (The Supremes)
World Music Market
Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters*
*French recognition of significant contributions to the arts
1995 - Soul Train Music Awards
1996 -
Billboard Music Magazine
Soul Train Hall of Fame
World Music Awards - Lifetime Achievement Award
1998 - Songwriter's Hall of Fame
1999 -
BET Hall of Fame
National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences
2003 -
UK Capital Awards
National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters
2007 -
BET Music Awards
Kennedy Center Honors
2012 - Grammy Award*
*Lifetime Achievement Award (solo artist)
2016 - Presidential Medal of Freedom
2017 - American Music Awards
(The full list of nominations, awards, and induction titles received by Diana Ross can be found on Wikipedia.)
My take away -
A win for an individual artist is honorable but perhaps a nomination among others within one or more categories is equally honorable as recognition has been given. Recognition if only for a nomination is impressive in of itself.
