Play It Michael Jackson

"King of Pop"

August 29, 1958 - June 25, 2009

In Chicago, electricity sparks in the summer atmosphere.  Weekend rush hour begins on Thursdays.  Blasting music with or without the windows rolled down.  A sun kissed tan by day.  A lovely glow by night.  Al fresco.  All eyes on the television during severe weather turning devastatingly critical.

Let me try again - Summer in Chicago is wide awake and filled with energy built up through the winter months.  Hear the city roar...like Michael Jackson.

When the news broke, anything Michael Jackson blasted the radio waves and every car window was down.  Strong impact and even more so passionate interest.  An unprecedented reaction included a spike in more sales and over 2.5 billion viewers worldwide tuning in to watch Michael Jackson's televised funeral at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.  (Second only to Queen Elizabeth's televised funeral with 4.1 billion viewers worldwide and 28 million in the UK alone)

Early on, fans grew up with him.  Every generation after his childhood found something great to listen to.  That is quite impressive...

...As are his honors.

Sunday Favorite

In this edition of Sunday Favorite, my top choice is:

To the Tune of Jewelry Notes

In brief summary, I am a new consultant with the jewelry and accessories brand, Studio7Fashion.  The primary focus is unique, high-end jewelry for women.

One of the unique pieces is a necklace & earring set in the design of a music note.

In the early days of Set List, I promised the blog be about anything music in genres and mediums.  Set List has since gone on to feature fashion as related to music such as Duran Duran's "Girl Panic!" and "Falling Down."  Robert Palmer's music videos featured models playing instruments.  A few examples of the blend between music and fashion.

Where fashion accents music, jewelry accents fashion.  In the case of the jewels shown in the link above, fashion is naturally a pair and music is honored one note at a time.

Electric Guitar, Andy Taylor!

...I love you man.

And so many fans love you too, Andy Taylor.  Happy Birthday.  This Set List post is on me.

(Source - People.com)
b. February 16, 1961

Andrew James Taylor - or just Andy - is forever linked to Duran Duran and The Power Station.  He also works as a solo artist as well as working alongside Robert Palmer when he went solo as well as Rod Stewart and many more musicians.

In 2008, Andy wrote an autobiography - Wild Boy: My Life in Duran Duran.

This Set List post is an outline where following the link to Wikipedia will fill in what is desired to know.

Andy Taylor has experienced a lot in life that keeps on rolling.  He has embraced worldwide stardom with global icons in music.  He has experienced devastating familial loss but with his forever love by his side.  He now battles cruel cancer that has tempted to take his life but he is Andy Taylor, a musician so talented that he can accurately play over his head.

Duran Duran - Live from London...Brief pause to catch their breath after "Wild Boys" and before the remaining two songs...Andy said "thank you very much"...fans will always say "you're welcome very much"

Happy Birthday, wild boy.

Set List Special Edition

Michaela Sullivan

b. February 15, 1993

Michaela is an only child and native to Hawaii but calls the mainland home.  She is a college graduate and holds a strong passion for professional photography and business acumen.  On April 8, 2023, she changed her last name when she married her true love.

The date - April 8 - is our grandmother's birthday, so I am certain the date of her wedding was chosen deliberately.

On this day, February  15th, Michaela officially settles into her 30s by one year.

Happy Birthday, my dear cousin.

From January 2, 1993 to February 27, 1993 and various dates in between, Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" reigned at the top of Billboard Hot 100 for nine weeks.

Night Sessions

Night Sessions

4th album
Released in October 2001
No. 4 on Top Jazz Albums chart

In the realm of pop rock and synth-pop, Duran Duran was my first collection from their debut album to their most recent.

In the realm of pure smooth jazz, a mixed album with a rainy day theme was my first.  Of course, The Rippingtons are always a must.

In the realm of classic jazz, Miles Davis and Chris Botti are staples in my collection under this genre.  Miles Davis reflects passion for the instrument and the art form.  Chris Botti follows suit but also profound emotion.

Night Sessions was my first album in my Chris Botti collection and at the time, I was in a deep depression with dark night lasting all day, even in beautiful blue sunny weather.  I have grown stronger now, so I rarely listen to the CD but the emotions behind the recordings will last forever.

Play It Jimi Hendrix

The month of February represents the accomplishments of black men and women in all forms of history, from rising against slavery to standing against white treatment during the Civil Rights Movement to pop culture to music to so much more.

(Point of intrigue - There is such the concept of reverse discrimination.  A white male applied to a university in northern California and was turned down because the school reached their requisite quota for the year.  The quota was in reference to minority races.)

History aside, let's hear Jimi Hendrix play it.

November 27, 1942 - September 18, 1970

"...one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of pop music..."

"...arguably the greatest instrumentalist in the history of rock music..."
