zZounds Music Shop - Synth Buying Guide

Due disclaimer - This post contains affiliate links and I may earn a small commission on any purchase made at no cost to you.

The guitar, whether electric, bass, or acoustic, is a popular instrument to learn how to play.  As a general find, the guitar is an emphasized instrument alongside vocals and other instrumentals.  The drums are also popular and seemingly easy to pick up in the learning process, especially if you can maintain a beat from the first lesson on.  The piano and keyboard, in my opinion, are not quick to study and therefore take time, dedication, and daily practice to master each note into song.  This take of course is true across the board.  The piano, though, is not quite as popular in such genres as classic rock, hard rock, pop, and so on.  I associate the piano with classical music and perhaps instrumental jazz mainly.  The keyboard offers more leniency.

And then there is the synth - an added layer to music that changes the dynamic of sound, expression, and reaction as well as conception in the recording studio where everything is coming together to what listeners ultimately hear and consider in interest.  Learning the finite details of the synth is complicated with so much involved.  A novice student can learn and master but patience is key.  I would rather guess the synthesizer coming naturally to those with a technical and musical bent.  I am not one.  However in this post, I am offering a synth buying guide for those with piqued curiosity and want to dabble in.

Set List Journal - Entry No. 4

Twelve years ago, Set List was in its infancy.  I was exploring the full concept of blogging.  For some time, I wrote detailed article style posts.  I loved what I was doing - writing as my first love.  When I discovered the possibility of YouTube videos, I went for it.  Blogger had so much to offer, such as personally customized templates, unique apps, and so much more.  Blogger still has plenty to consider.  As a music blogger, there is so much I can consider when posting.  As a fan of so many musicians and bands, I am inspired.

For example -

In 2010, I made my mom a CD with ten of her most favorite songs.  Somehow I knew what I was doing, except for down time between each song.  So when you listen to an album or music online, there is generally very little time between each ending song and upcoming song.  When I came to the end of each song, the delay somehow lasted three seconds.  In the music industry, that is painfully long and a deal breaker for listeners.  Nonetheless, my novice homemade album needed a title.  I kept going back to the three second delay.  Three seconds.  That is too darn long.  Three seconds too long...

...became the official title of the CD I made for my mom.

I also wrote a short book highlighting my best posts in 2010 with Three Seconds Too Long as the title.  I sold one copy.

Every once in a while I wonder if Three Seconds Too Long would be a good name for a record label.  Just a wonder.

And from there I shall conclude.

Signing off for the day.

Answer to the Song

Guess the song - "Why the hell it means so much to me"

Answer - "Suddenly I See"
The Devil Wears Prada soundtrack

The film was released in 2005.

The song was certified Gold in Australia, Platinum in the UK, and 2x Platinum in Canada.

"Suddenly I See" spoke to female power.  The song was not necessarily meant for the film but the themes of "Suddenly I See" and The Devil Wears Prada are a natural match.

Set List Journal - Entry No. 3

In this Set List Journal - Entry No. 3, I am reminiscing the end of the Fall 2007 semester as an undergraduate.

The members of Duran Duran were in Chicago the day I completed my studies for the year.  There was no way I could come home, drop my backpack off, and get to meet them just in time.  My mom could tell how frustrated and sad I was, so as a surprise she bought me a Duran Duran Live From London DVD.

I watched the DVD every day and memorized the concert set list.  I blasted the volume and sang along, feeling as though I was in the first row.  When I play the concert DVD, I am in the first row or evem on stage where I can see close up shots that the audience cannot see.

Little did I know...

Set List Journal - Entry No. 2

In this Set List Journal - Entry No. 2, I am reminiscing my love for jazz trumpeter, Chris Botti.

Although my collection is extensive, my most treasured album is Italia.

I was 19 years old when I discovered Chris Botti and his album, Night Sessions.  I was 19 years old when I was diagnosed with Bipolar Type I.  I was in the throws of deep, stinging depression.  The album helped get me through darker than dark emotions and days.

I loved Chris Botti's take on jazz, somewhere between classic and smooth.  And so I created a collection...

...which brings me to my latest - Italia.

Grammy (father's mother) and Grandma (mother's mother).  Grammy surprisingly supported my interest in Duran Duran.  Grandma was more on the conservative end and for Christmas one year many moons ago, she gifted me with the Chris Botti album, Italia - an album I expressed interest in.

As a musician, Chris Botti plays with emotion.  The best example I can share is "Ave Maria."  A beautiful and sentimental song that leaves me in a profoundly emotional state of mind.

In 2004, I was diagnosed with Temporal Lobe Seizure Disorder.  In 2011, I was diagnosed with Panic Disorder.  As of 2011, I also have agoraphobia and generally avoid leaving my home if I can.

Chris Botti's jazz style is inspiring to nudge me one step out at a time.  Grandma held my hand then and holds my hand now...

...She passed away in September 2021.  She was my soulmate, my best friend, my sounding board when I experienced an epileptic episode, my security when going to a doctor's appointment, my cheerleader when I faced bravery on my own.  We had serious conversations.  We laughed at remarks not necessarily humorous.  We expressed back pain at the exact same time.  I spent time with her every day.  She reminisced her family.  I wanted to know.  She would state in random Swedish words and phrases.  She taught me all that I know now.

In times of mental distress, she would say "talk to Grandma."  Italia is my musical expression of talking to my Grandma.

Her loving presence in my dreams...you have no idea.

Signing off for the day.

Fashion Wednesday

In this ediiton of Fashion Wednesday, I am concluding the Ralph Lauren theme.  Explore the look book below -

This look book was a favorite to style for its ease of theme.  I consider the design as upscale business wear, somewhere between formal and proper.  The neutral colors accent the tone.  Although the necklace adds a touch of glam, the overall take on the outfit is minimal in color hues and apparel.  This look is best defined as understated, classic, effortless, and sophisticated - therefore perfect for a more formal business environment.

The outfit -

Grey Sweater

High-Waist Knit Skirt

Celia Olive Suede Pumps

Silver-Tone & Enamel Link 16" Collar Necklace

Crossbody Bag

I love the Ralph Lauren brand for its absolute Americana take on luuxry fashion, for both women and men.  I will always have a passion for styling and writing about RL.
