British Phonographic Industry
BPI, or British Phonographic Industry, was founded in 1973 to promote British music and protect against copyright infringement.
BPI recognizes the BRIT Awards (founded in 1977), the Classic BRIT Awards, and the Mercury Prize. In 2013, the inaugural BRIT Icon Award was given to Elton John.
As with RIAA, the British Phonographic Industry is home to Warner Music UK, Sony Music Entertainment UK, and Universal Music UK as well as over 450 independent labels.
