Every seasoned drummer, like pro guitarists, has brand preferences.  They have their reasons.  Roger Taylor plays the Tama kit on stage and tests out Roland in the studio.  In the past, Phil Collins was linked to the Roland brand but in 1983, he switched to Gretsch and has not looked back.
