Founded in 1969 by songwriter Johnny Mercer, music publisher/songwriter Abe Olman, and publisher/executive Howie Richmond ... Nile Rogers acts as chairman.
Focus of honors - English language songs & English language songwriters
The Songwriters Hall of Fame does not have a physical location and inductions are not televised.
The inaugural ceremony included 120 inductees, including professional partnerships such as Rodgers and Hammerstein. Other partnerships include John Lennon and Paul McCartney (1987), Bee Gees (1994), Glenn Frey and Don Henley (2000), Queen (2003), Earth, Wind & Fire (2010), Kool and the Gang (2018)...to name a few.
Into 2019, 461 individuals were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
2020 inductees include Mariah Carey, Chad Hugo, the Isley Brothers, Annie Lenox, Steve Miller, Rick Nowels, William "Mickey" Stevenson, Dave Stewart, and Pharrell Williams. (The formal ceremony was held in 2022 due to COVID-19.)
