Set List Recommended - Justin Timberlake + Chris Stapleton

In this final edition of Set List Recommended - Justin Timberlake and specifically his memorable collaborations with music legends across a variety of genres, I can think of only the best to cap this Saturday off.

Justin Timberlake and Chris Stapleton truly collaborated live at the 2015 Country Music Association Awards.

At the ceremony, Chris won Album of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, and New Artist of the Year.

"Tennessee Whiskey" - Originally recorded by country musician, David Allan Coe ... Chris Stapleton's version drove the song into greater prominence and has been certified 17x Platinum by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America).  Further certifications include -

Gold in Brazil & Denmark

Platinum in the UK

5x Platinum in Australia

9x Platinum in New Zealand

Diamond in Canada

(Wikipedia)

"Drink You Away" -

Song from Justin Timberlake's 2013 album, The 20/20 Experience - 2 of 2

Genres considered - Classic Rock, Country Pop, Gospel Blues, Memphis Soul

Lyrics compare love to alcoholism and reference Jack Daniel's & Jim Beam brands

As of May 2016, over 600,000 copies have sold in the U.S. alone & 76,000 digital copies sold following Timberlake's live performance with Chris Stapleton.

No. 5 on Billboard Hot Digital Singles & No. 85 on Canadian Hot 100

(Wikipedia)

Justin Timberlake's collaborations with Duran Duran, Madonna, and Chris Stapleton prove that he has more to musically offer than just cliche boy band hype.

I dare say play it, Justin Timberlake!

Girls of Summer

On the first Friday in August, which happened to be the first day of August, I highlighted "Boys of Summer."  This song kept in tone with the late days of the regular baseball season and the true boys of summer.

On this last Friday in August, I am capping the month with the girls of summer.

Where the boys define sportswear, the girls define luxury and dare say revealing fashion.  Where the boys sing in the 7th inning stretch, the girls tune in to music legends.

For him, the heat is on.  For her, pressure off.

Enjoy (once more) the full music video for "Girl Panic!".

Girls of summer.

Shout

Reality Through Lyrics

Shout, shout, let it all out
These are the things I can do without
Come on
I'm talking to you, come on
Shout, shout, let it all out
These are the things I can do without
Come on
I'm talking to you, come on
In violent times
You shouldn't have to sell your soul
In black and white
They really, really ought to know
Those one-track minds
They took you for a working boy
Kiss them goodbye
You shouldn't have to jump for joy
You shouldn't have to jump for joy
Shout, shout, let it all out
These are the things I can do without
Come on
I'm talking to you, come on
They gave you life
And in return, you gave them hell
As cold as ice
I hope we live to tell the tale
I hope we live to tell the tale
Shout, shout, let it all out
These are the things I can do without
Come on
I'm talking to you, come on

...

Shout, shout, let it all out (let it all out)
These are the things I can do without
Come on
I'm talking to you, so come on
And when you've taken down your guard
If I could change your guard
I'd really love to break your heart
I'd really love to break your heart
Shout, shout, let it all out
These are the things I can do without (break your heart)
(I'd really love to break your heart) Come on
I'm talking to you, come on
Shout, shout, let it all out
These are the things I can do without
Come on
I'm talking to you, so come on

...

Shout, shout, let it all out
These are the things I can do without
Come on
I'm talking to you, come o
(They really, really ought to know) shout, shout, let it all out
(They really, really ought to know) these are the things I can do without
(They really, really) come on
I'm talking to you, so come on (they really, really ought to know)
Shout, shout, let it all out (I'd really love to break your heart)
These are the things I can do without (I'd really love to break your heart)
Come on
I'm talking to you, so come on
Shout, shout, let it all out
These are the things I can do without
Come on

Farewell Avon

Dear readers and passersby,

I am deeply saddened to say that I am no longer promoting my Avon store on Set List.

I am not closing the doors to my Avon business, so I encourage exploration and potential shopping should you be inclined.

However, due to miscommunication I am stepping down from an active role as Ambassador/Independent Sales Rep.

I am deeply sorry but I do still encourage exploration, spreading the word, and potential shopping.

For the last time, consider my boutique.

4 Minutes (feat. Justin Timberlake & Timbaland)

Set List Recommended - Justin Timberlake + Madonna

 Hard Candy

Madonna

11th album
Released in April 2008

Justin Timberlake collaborated with Madonna on one song - "4 Minutes."  He further co-wrote and helped produced many of the songs on Hard Candy.

Point of interest - Timbaland was a primary producer on the album.  Justin Timberlake was a driving force on the album.  Just one year before, the two worked with Duran Duran - a full circle of icons in music.

Madonna's inspiration for the song was seeing first hand human suffering in Africa and overall social awareness.

No. 3 on Billboard Hot 100

No. 1 in 21 countries - including Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, Spain, & the UK

Sales over 3 million in the U.S.
5 million sales worldwide

2 Grammy Nominations

"4 Minutes" was Justin Timberlake's 9th Top-10 hit

No. 1 on Billboard Hot Dance Club Play Chart
No. 1 on Billboard Hot Dance Airplay Chart

Certified Gold in Belgium, Italy, Japan, Sweden
Certified 2x Gold in Mexico
Certified Platinum in Australia, Brazil, Finland, Germany, New Zealand, the UK
Certified 2x Platinum in Denmark, Spain (ringtone), the U.S.
Certified 3x Platinum in Norway, Spain

Duran Duran and Justin Timberlake were a power collab.  Madonna and Justin Timberlake were a power collab.  "Falling Down" was Duran Duran's second-worst performing single in the UK.  "4 Minutes" certifications range from Gold to Multi-Platinum.  I love both songs and downloaded both songs.  Yet why was "Falling Down" so poorly received and "4 Minutes" a smash success?  I wonder why that is.

Driven To Tears

Reality Through Lyrics

How can you say that you're not responsible?
What does it have to do with me?
What is my reaction, what should it be?
Confronted by this latest atrocity
Driven to tears
Driven to tears
Driven to tears

...

Hide my face in my hands
Shame wells in my throat
My comfortable existence
Is reduced to a shallow meaningless party
Seems that when some innocent die
All we can offer them is a page in a some magazine
Too many cameras and not enough food
This is what we've seen
Driven to tears
Driven to tears
Driven to tears

...

Woh oh oh
Woh oh oh
Woh oh oh
Woh oh oh

...

Protest is futile
Nothing seems to get through
What's to become of our world?
Who knows what to do?

...

Driven to tears
Driven to tears
Driven to tears
Driven to tears
Driven to tears
Driven to tears

Falling Down (Radio Edit)

Set List Recommended - Justin Timberlake + Duran Duran

Red Carpet Massacre
Duran Duran

12th album
Released in November 2007

Justin Timberlake collaborated with Duran Duran on two songs - "Nite Runner" & "Falling Down."  Justin wrote additional lyrics for "Nite Runner" and acted as producer for "Falling Down."  Of the two songs, "Falling Down" was produced with just Duran Duran and Justin Timberlake.

Point of intrigue - Duran Duran did not inform Justin of the song's music video until after the release, assuming he would like it especially because of the models.

"Falling Down" received airplay and was available for download on iTunes in the United States.

No. 52 in the UK

No. 2 in Italy

Chart Performance 2007
Czech Republic - 6
Germany - 79
Switzerland - 60
U.S. - 25

Follow the Wikipedia link above for further research source.

Point of interest - Justin Timberlake's full solo discography received certifications from a variety of countries.  "Falling Down" was Duran Duran's second worst-performing single in the UK in the band's history.  I wonder why that is.
