Aerosmith's history is impressively long, dating from the early 1970s to the present day.  Read in full on Wikipedia.

Aerosmith is influenced by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, the Yardbirds, and Led Zeppelin to name a few.

Aerosmith has influenced such hard rock and heavy metal bands as Motley Crue, Guns N' Roses, the Black Crowes, and Metallica to name a few.

Joe Perry and Steven Tyler, upon request by Jimmy Page, inducted Led Zeppelin into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.

Aerosmith was not immune to the 1970s music lifestyle - substance excess and spending excess with the money accrued.

Aerosmith further experienced profound popularity in the U.S. and Japan but not in the UK.  Interest slowed when Joe Perry and Brad Whitford departed.  However upon return, their popularity resurged.

"...the single most successful comeback in the history of heavy metal, if not all of popular music..."

My favorite Aerosmith song is "Back in the Saddle."  My mother's' generation best knows "Dream On."  Somewhere in between are songs that find fan favorites at nearly any age and remain popular on radio waves to date.
