The Impressions were originally formed in 1958. As with so many musical groups, the band had a revolving door of replacements.
Nonetheless, the original Impressions were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, and the Grammy Hall of Fame.
The Impressions received the Pioneer Award from the Rhythm and Blues Foundation.

Point of intrigue - Throughout the 1960s, recordings by the band spoke to the Civil Rights Movement.
The Impressions officially retired in 2018.
Curtis Mayfield, as a member of the original lineup, earned a Grammy Legend Award (1994) and Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award (1995).
Mayfield was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the Impressions and solo. He was also a two-time Grammy Hall of Fame inductee.
